$6-7 for Johnny and I would say $5-6 for Sean tops. Any more and they are way over paid. This is paying them a little for what they have already done and what they are hoping they can do int he future with this. With the talks of taking a hometown discount in order to save a few dollars to sign better plays to help the team, both numbers could drop by $1 I'm sure.

I agree JG is the higher end player.

But looking at Monahans defensive play we have to consider he walked into being a 1st line center pretty much right away. He's going head to head with to 1st centres.

and the difference between a 1st line centre and a 2nd line centre I think is a lot bigger then a 1st line wing and a 2nd line wing. Steeper learning curve and compete level...adding in that winning those key face-offs comes into play (and he's being pretty good at improving there...I also would bet he's ahead of most players his age in the circle and thats with top line competition)

No way Sean is only 5.0 mill per, his numbers have outperformed Barkov & Schiefle & he has matched Mackinnon. The market is pretty well set for Sean. 7-8 years at between 6.0 -6.25mill is a no brainer. I go to the games & his face-off work has really improved, especially at critical times of the game. You guys can only hope that Marner & Mathews hit 30 goals by the time they are 19-20.

Gaudreau is worth every penny of a 8 year $60mill deal & I hope they just give it to them & get this thing done for both these guys. Again, no way he signs for 6.0 mill per. You obviously don't watch much Flames hockey.

Monahan should be in the MacKinnon/Scheifele range but probably just a bit lower in AAV.

Gaudreau should fall somewhere between Forsberg and Tarasenko AAV wise.

I wish you were both player's agent but the reality is you're about $1million low for each on a long term, hopefully 8 year deal.

I think they have the money sorted out it's just the term now. I think Johnny and monny are asking six and we are trying to get them for eight

We hope so, but both Monahan and Gaudreau are outperforming all of those comparable players you just mentioned.

I bet Treliving works some magic and signs them both lower than expected, like he did with Giordano.

Centers usually command a bit of a premium compared to wingers with similar stats, don't they?

I was hopeful of this but the more comparables that keep signing similar deals combined with the fact that gio had less of a pedigree and his age led to his contract being lower AAV than most projected

You could argue based on all the wingers draft position and centers draft position they are outperforming based on expectations of each player ...but number wise they are just similar that all

No doubt the debate is over term right now. The money depends entirely on what the term will be.

Re: Monahan- well he's no Nugent Hopkins! and that wussy signed for 6!

Anyone that thinks he's not the real deal hasn't watch his 3 year progression! The guy was a steal at 6th, thanks Carolina!

Nugent Hopkins signed for $6m per when the salary cap for the season was 64.3m (9.3%). If that % were used for $73m for next season, that would be about 6.8m

The market is set. Treliving seems to play hard ball with his RfA's and usually comes out with a dynamite deal. His UFA signings are hit and miss but RFA's have been awsome. Monny gets Barkov/mackinnon money JG gets Taresanko money. Term is def the issue.

Monahan will be 6.25 to 6.5 for 8 years

Gaudreau will be 7.5, and while I would like it to be 8 years I can see it being more like 6.

Another extremely informative blog. Tomorrow can we get some stats to show that fire is hot?

No one thinks Monahan will be paid as much as Gaudreau except knuckleheads posting comments on hockeybuzz.
